In his blog, Women and Children First, Al Mohler brings up the sinking of the Titanic to show us women what we are missing when we call for equality.
In his words, we are missing out on a time when men would lay down their lives for us women and our children. He seems to be making the parallel of men who whould lay down their lives for their wives and what Christ did for all mankind. That leaves me with an uncomfortable feeling.
Women in 1912 lived in a much more submissive society – held there by the legal laws of the land. Since then women have gained the right to vote, and the Civil Rights in 1964. Does he want us to go back to that time? How willing is he to go backwards?
Let’s go back to men laying down their lives for their wives and chidren. Women have been doing that since time began – every time they give birth they face the possibility of giving their life for their child.
It’s “Titanic” by the way.
