A wife is to submit herself graciously to the servant leadership of her husband even as the church willingly submits to the headship of Christ. She, being in the image of God as is her husband and thus equal to him, has the God-given responsibility to respect her husband and to serve as his helper in managing the household and nurturing the next generation.

Great post! Yes, yes–the churches that chase after modern appearances to attract new people, and hide (at first, at least, IMO) their antiquated views toward women. It’s all about marketing and packaging.
If this part were removed, “She must be a good wife and bake cookies all day long/And teach her children with verse and song,” and replaced with some sort of rhyme about the best of classic and modern music performed by a *band*, you’d have my former congregation nailed. The congregation did permit women more freedom *outside* of the church and home (talk about encouraging someone to make an idol of her professional life!).
Keep it up with the sense of humor. 🙂

That one was inspired by a church’s website which showed the pastor about 10 young men on the church staff wearing jeans and looking very casual and “with it.” Further reading on their website showed what they thought of women serving in ministry.
I kinda liked that one, too.
