For some time now, I have been saying in this blog that it is time to take the ball across the line for women’s equality. In spite of the fact that I am not a football fan, that analogy appeals to me.
So this week I have been amused by advertisements for The Fellowship of The Woodlands and pastor Kerry Shook who is touting the appearance of Colt McCoy of the Cleveland Browns.
I don’t have anything against Colt. I am sure that he is being brought in to appeal to the masculine congregation. Of course if John Piper is right, women will be “loving it, they’re radiant, they’re intelligent, they’re understanding, they’re processing, they’re interacting.”
But what about me?
I want a hero. I want a man to stand before the church congregation and tell me how he is going to help women carry the ball across the line for equality.
I want a woman to stand before the congregation and tell me how she has suited up with shoulder pads and a helmet and is ready to carry the ball across the line for women’s equality.
There are a lot of voices speaking for women’s equality. Books, blogs, and facebook is enabling us to get the message out. But I fear that the message is getting out only to each other. I am afraid that we are not getting the message out to those who need it.
I want to win the game. I am suited up, along with most of you, but the huddle we are in is not on the field.
A football player cannot remain in the huddle and win the game.
Will you join me as we get out of the huddle and get in the game and take the ball across the line?
