Equal in the image of God, but

The equal-buts.

I’ve been busy writing letters to the editors.  I had one printed in the Baptist Standard, and one in a city newspaper, and three in our local newspaper.

This was my letter that was printed in the Baptist Standard a few weeks ago.

When a theology gets so bad, something must be done. A group of women took a bold step in Orlando, Florida, on July 24 and demanded an Apology from the Council on Biblical Manhood and Biblical Womanhood, for a subversive teaching of the scriptures.  The Council on Biblical Manhood and Biblical Womanhood came into being with the express purpose of suppressing women, and elevating men.  That is a sin.  That is arrogance and they should bow before God and confess their sin.

This Council tells half the world that they have lordship, or headship, over the other half of the world. From birth, boys are told that they are to be the leaders over women.  It begins in the churches, finds favor in the homes,  and the result is that these boys grow up with an inflated belief in themselves and their ability to speak for God.

We can find no words in the Bible that Jesus spoke that would give men authority over women, or a man authority over his wife.  We find redemptive power in the blood of Christ to both men and women equally.

We don’t want to control anybody.  Conversely, we don’t want all males being in control of us.  They claim that it is the redeemed husband that is to have leadership over his wife, but when a boy is taught from birth that he is superior to all females, his mother included, you cannot suddenly tell him that he is to exercise this power only after he is redeemed.  From his point of view, he was redeemed the moment he came out of the womb.

Will you speak up for women?

Rebuttal to my letter in the Baptist Standard by Ben Mullen, The Colony.

In her rebuke of the Council on Biblical Manhood and Biblical Womanhood, Shirley Taylor rightly points out the obvious – men are pigs. She woefully omits the reality- women are, too.

Then he goes on to say this:

When it comes to her assessment of the council, she flirts dangerously with libel. “The council came into being with the express purpose of suppressing women and elevating men,”  That is a pretty stout accusation.

Her charge runs directly counter to the council’s stated vision – “proclaiming God’s glorious design for men and women.”  Blah, blah, blah….”I would simply point out the council has consistently affirmed a tenable biblical position that men and women are equal in the image of God, but maintain complementary differences in role and function.” (end of his letter)

Of course you will see that “Gods glorious design for men and women” the way they interpret it, suppresses women and elevates men.

Ah, The Colony – not too far from where we live (assuming this is The Colony near Plano and Frisco, TX).

When it comes to her assessment of the council, she flirts dangerously with libel.

When it comes to Complementarians’ assessment of how God views men and women in the Body of Christ, they flirt dangerously with libel.

What Mr. Mullen fails to mention is that these “complementary differences in role and function” equate to authoritative roles for men and subservient roles for women. Always. The roles are not just different. The functions are not equal.

But as Buttercup said in The Princess Bride, “We sort of skipped that part. . . “

I just thought I would post, “Equal in being, Unequal in Role”, by Rebecca Merrill Groothuis. I know most of us have probably read this but, a refresher never hurts anything. 🙂

  4. You notice he didn’t address anything you wrote at all?

I guess the parroting they constantly do is syntax code their followers will understand.

For the rest of us? WELL I guess we are out of LUCK!
